Well, whether or not you support or oppose civil marriage, it's still something that has always been left to the states to regulate.

Civil marriage is a government program. I oppose it on the grounds that government expansion should be resisted on all fronts.

The best way IMO to fix the problem is to take marriage out of the government domain altogether and leave it to religious institutions.
