this means the speculative carry trade will continue. look for gold, emerging markets, small cap stocks, commodities to get re-fired.

I knew They Would Waver.

The BOJ hasn't necessarily wavered. Abe's a politician. What he says has no bearing on what the BOJ will do. The politicians have long been pressuring the BOJ to proceed slowly with normalizing policy. One guy threatened to amend the BOJ Law to curtail the BOJ's independence if the BOJ didn't comply with the LDP's wishes. That said, the consensus is that the BOJ will not hike on June 15. BOJ governor Fukui has said they plan to pause once they finish draining excess liquidity, before discontinuing ZIRP.

Think the one covers the BOJ situation well:

The BOJ getting pressure from politicians is disconcerting,

and if they bowed under, would be extremely inflationary, and big mistake.

What are they actually doing? Very aggressive draining in the last four days. from 14.32 to 10.89.

Other Asian CBs are using surprise tactics, which I feel is more effective than slow motion telegraphed moves.
