Zarqawi is not an insurgent. He is a member of Al-Qaeda who moved into Iraq in pursuit of the US military. I don't mean to insult your intelligence in stating this. I know you know the difference between Al-Qaeda and insurgents. But there are some on this thread who cannot distinguish between the two and they conveniently switch between the two.

The insurgents want the US out of their country. To help the US to get out the insurgents turned Zarqawi in, especially because he was going counter to their interest. I think the straw that broke the camel's back is the discovery of severed heads in a fruit box. (Beheading a clear trait of Zarqawi)

There are rumblings in certain quarters that Bush is already getting involved in the civil war and is taking sides with the Shias.
