But it is not like Fab 36 is running at full utilization, and they're sending the overflow to fab 7. That would have made sense a year ago, when fab 30 was at full util, and fab 36 was not opened yet.

Besides, why would fab 7 products be cheap ? Chartered isn't in the business of spending $billions building facilities to give away their use for cheap. I've never seen a claim that fabless is cheaper than own fab. The reason for outsourcing fabrication is that a design house does not have the financial or technical capability to do own fabrication. Factors that do not apply to AMD.
