Will these OEMS be willing to put these inferior products out there for back to school and XMAS????

A question I increasingly ask myself is "Does it matter to the average user?" The answer is no.

Re: Tks your reply.....There is a poster at Yahoo..Amdace...who a few months ago said that intc will stoop below gutter level to get at AMD....this 'fraudulent ' bench marking seems to be the case

There is nothing "gutter level" or fraudulent about Intel using 4MB of cache on a desktop CPU. Even with 4MB of cache Conroe will be about 15% smaller in size than AMD's current dual-core Socket-AM2 and Socket-S1 CPUs with 1MB of L2 cache. It is very likely that Intel's smaller 2MB L2 Conroe will outperform AMD's 2MB L2 Athlon 64 on a majority of applications.

Question you might ask is what is the overall system cost...I think the AMD system is more cost effective than Intel's plus there are some advantages...Vista proof, Heat proof, Noise proof, Energy savings...the list goes on...

"amdace" from the Yahoo board has serious mental illness-- I'm really not kidding. The guy claims he has all sorts of inventions on par with a perpetual motion machine.

"One question...as the MCW chips are not here and will be only in limited numbers through January will the PC makers discard the Athlons and Athlon DCs in large numbers for the very inexpensive yet very inferior Pentiums . Will these OEMS be willing to put these inferior products out there for back to school and XMAS????"

I doubt it! In fact I'll not be surprised if AMD has to raise prices before too long, once the planned price cuts are implemented.

You see, there seems to be some Conroe production obstacle that INTC is having trouble hurdling, so assuming that the few produced Conroes do sell out, that leaves a HUGE PC demand still in place.

My guess is that AMD's quality offerings will get the nod over INTC's junky P4's and that consequently AMD may be bumping up against a supply constraint through to December when AMD's 65nm product begins to surface. Price tend to rise where there is a supply constraint.

re:Also I think
the customers (OEMS) will not allow themselves to be put at Intcs mercy again so the ecosystem will supply some support...

Wrong. Customers will buy anything to make them a buck. All of them want to be part of CMW too.

re: in large numbers for the very inexpensive yet very inferior Pentiums .

Yes. The back to school crowd wants to surf, write and IM. You can get a dynamite Intel Pentium system to do that. The price will not be the issue.
