I wouldn't call an extra 47mm^2 a minor difference, and 183mm^2 for the 512KBx2 L2 is already large. I don't know how exactly how big of an impact it has on production. BUGGI thinks it is substantial. Certainly it is not inconsequential. What might be "acceptable yields" for a 120mm^2 CPU may not be acceptable for a 230mm^2 CPU in an increasingly competitive pricing environment.
