I wish a more prominent signature of liberalism was decriminalizing victimless crimes- because I consider the imprisonment of a large percentage of a population as one of the tells of a repressive, invasive, powerful central state.

This whole debate reminds me of the Grateful Dead lyric:

I'd like to get some sleep before I travel;
But if you got a warrant
I guess you're gonna come in.

Yeah, they are gonna come in.

Fourth Amendment law should be about how police get the warrants and whether they search for and seize the right evidence as they execute the warrant, not whether they dance a jig for 27.5 seconds on the front porch before they enter a residence (through an unlocked door) that a judge has decided they have probable cause to enter.

This is where the center starts to get turned off by mixing warrantless wiretap outrage with how the police treated a drug dealer when they had a warrant in hand. It is serious fodder for attack ads when campaign season rolls around.
