"What's the division you mention between pre tv and the current generation?" That article missed that, I don't know why. There was a softening o of accents in the wake of the introduction of TV. Now it is true that there has been a resurgence of accents, which seems to be a national phenomena, among the younger generation. Apparently you can tell what borough someone in NYC is from again by their speech patterns and accent. I didn't mention them because they wouldn't have been represented in the CCs you listened to.
