"Two way street" doesn't imply time travel. It's not always readily apparent what is implied by a speculation. If you are proposing that certain variations may be planted into the genome in the hopes or expectations that they will be needed later then you are implying some sort of time travel or precognition. The past has unfolded in a single precise and specific way. It is very tempting to therefore think that it had to unfold as it did. The long sequence of cause and effect followed by cause and effect is only frozen once it happens. That which has not yet happened is still very much up in the air. TP
