Do we know that about Zarqawi? Did we read it in The Sun or hear it on Fox News?

Actually, we heard about it from the US Army and the US State Department, just recently. It has long been known that Zarqawi was in Baghdad in 2002 and 2003; when the Army id'd the new AQ in Iraq head as al Masri, they said that he had joined Zarqawi as part of the Baghdad AQ cell.

Anyway, what we know now and whether the Bush administration was intentionally misleading everyone in 2002 and 3 based on what was known then are different issues, wouldn't you say?

Yes, it's a different issue. But don't you think that some of what we know now is related to what Bush & co knew then?

And speaking of deception, global warming is another issue the Bushies have been misleading about.

When it comes to global warming, I have been able to sort out a few established facts: in the last century, atmospheric carbon dioxide has risen from 300 to 370 ppm; and atmospheric temperature has risen by 0.8 degrees Celsius.

Climate scientists do seem to agree that part of the increase is natural and part is human derived. Of the human causes, breathing, land-use, and burning fossil fuels are all cited as causes with varying degrees of attribution. Decomposition and cow farts are also cited in the increase of atmospheric methane. All agree that the chief greenhouse gas is water vapor, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on how water vapor interacts with rising temperature and the other gases.

What this all means for temperature change over the next hundred years is all over the map, depending on whose models you believe. The predictions are anywhere from a 1 degree to a ten degree rise in temperature.

This is just a very rough understanding, but I think I've this much about right. It is hard to understand because the climate keeps changing all the time anyway. 1000 years ago we had the Medieval Warm Period. Europe is still colder than it was a thousand years ago; they grew olives in Cologne and claret grapes in England then. From 1400 to 1700 there was the Little Ice Age. Why? Let me know if you find an explanation. If we have now reached the same temperature as 2000 years ago, all I can tell you is that it wasn't caused back then by the Romans burning fossil fuels.

Now Al Gore is running around with a new movie and interviews with whoever will give him a microphone, telling all and sundry that what is means is that the Polar Ice Caps are about to Melt and the sea will rise 20 feet! Real Soon Now! And anybody who doesn't believe it is a Stooge of Junk Scientists hired by Exxon Mobile! We must all believe and go "carbon neutral" RIGHT NOW!

Color me skeptical. You don't think that he might be exaggerating a little for dramatic effect? Wouldn't that be...what's the word I'm looking for here...oh yes, I've got it... "manipulative" on his part?
