Two choices for zero state income tax on the East Coast - New Hampshire (but still taxes interest and dividends at 5% but not capital gains) and Florida :) (TN has a pretty favorable tax environment too). What surprises me actually is all the rich people living in NYC which is the most highly taxed jurisdiction in the US. Always wonder whether they have some kind of tax shelters to avoid the NYS and NYC taxes.
