Cobalt: I would agree with you that this lastest revelation on WMD is not news as it has been reported of finding old chemical shells peridically. The last report I remember was 13 total so over 500 is quite an increase but it has been in the 2 to 3 at a time rate. General Pace said same in old interview that we couldn't find the new WMD just the old WMD. The more interesting question is what happened to all the WMD found by the UN in 1997 after Saddam's son in law defection. This includes tons of VX. The UN report inventories this stuff and says after being kicked out that it still exists although UN said they did destroy some. This UN report seems neglected by the press. The ISG reports seem to concentrate on the WMD existing at 1991 and indicates they couldn't find it . These reports don't talk about or mention the UN report which had a 1998 time line. Frankly I have seen no reports of the 1998 inventory being destroyed based on records, forensic evidence or people's statements. I have seen circumstantial evidence of it being moved by trucks to Syria and by the Russians to Russia. And we have the attempted attack on Jordon from Syria which could have come from the Iraq WMD moved to Syria. All confusing . Someday the facts will come out. Rich

And, BTW, I already read those 4 pages. Will be more than glad to see the rest of the pages when they are declassified. Maybe someone from "outside" will steal that particular document, and send it in to the NYT. They don't seem to have too many qualms about publishing classified materials. Send in Sandy Berger. He's had some practice already.

I think it is very bizarre that someone would sort of laugh and sort of shake her head at this story, but that is just me. I think that most people do not find this a laughing matter. Especially someone that has ever suffered from the use of such weapons. I also understand that some people prefer not to hear about this "old pre-1991 stuff" and might find the whole thing boring. There certainly is no stopping the media when they decide to run a story as we've seen this past week, so I guess some of us just have to suffer along.
