Related question - if things are getting better, how come our monthly defense spending in Iraq has gone up from $6B at the start to $10B now?

And if we're winning, and the Iraqis are taking on a greater share of the burden, why then are casualty figures for American troops trending upward?

That's a fair question, don't you think?

They're not trending upward. 2005 casualties were 25% lower than 2004 casualties; 2006 casualties are trending lower than 2005.

I think it is a dumb question and has no connection with American success in Iraq. There is not enough data in casualties to show any trending that has any real meaning.

Bullets and bombs targeting and murdering innocent Iraqis is the method of Islamic terrorists.
