One thing that brings me hope about Iraq, is that the Iraqi people seem to have seized the idea of self government. A large number participated in the elections.

They want self rule and "democracy", but they don't want the US or anyone else telling them how to do it.

Imagine if there had been little or no resistance by the insurgency? What would Iraq look like today? Would we see an Exxon Mobil office in Baghdad? Who knows, but the Iraqis could see that it was a possibility. Anyone that saw the oil reserves carved up to the big oil companies in the US Reports and Studies might be suspicious.

I believe that we are now the perceived threat in Iraq. I guess I'm stating the obvious.

Solution? Intensify training for the Iraqis and equip the new Army and police and redeploy over the hill. Keep an eye on things in case the "terrorists" prevail, it's obvious to everyone that they cannot. Then let Iraqis govern themselves.

The troops can pretty much be back with their families on Christmas once again.
