But secession is not "forced" by definition. Secession is a voluntary act. The Southern States weren't forced to secede. They seceded voluntarily.

Okay, you aren't proposing to force the southern states to secede, although you are in favor of it today and presumably would have favored it in the past as well. But being a liberal you wouldn't want to fight over it - nothing is worth fighting for.

I've seen some comments from Jerry Falwell at least.

Precisely where did Jerry Falwell say something favorable, or at least uncritical, about Fred Phelps and his program? I don't believe even he would do that.

I would expect the "liberal media" to be pleased as punch to print up condemnations of the Phelps family gay bashers.

Then you're an idiot. The liberal media has made that Phelps, who doesn't have one member in his church that isn't a close relative, one of the best known Christian names in America. More folks know that name than know the Popes name, I would expect.

<i<Do you think the "liberal media" would suppress condemning statements of gay bashers?

I submit they would ignore the contrary opinions of the other 99.9999 .... % of American Christians.

The liberal media, as you call it, was more than happy to publish the views of various church leaders on Pat Robertson's comments on Ariel Sharon's God-inflicted punishment.

You bet they were happy. And they report every stupid thing that comes out of Robertson's mouth.

Finally, if any states wanted to secede I'd oppose it, up to the point of going to war over it. Probaly mostly due to the precedent and family history as my ancestors fought in the Union Army and a gg grandfather died in the conflict.
