Okay, you aren't proposing to force the southern states to secede, although you are in favor of it today and presumably would have favored it in the past as well. But being a liberal you wouldn't want to fight over it - nothing is worth fighting for.

It depends on where I am. If I'm in a red state I would fight for the red state's right for self-determination. If I'm in a blue state, I would oppose fighting to preserve the union. Self-determination trumps preserving the union.

Precisely where did Jerry Falwell say something favorable, or at least uncritical, about Fred Phelps and his program? I don't believe even he would do that.

It wasn't positive. It was something close to the Phelps Baptist Church doesn't represent Christians. Mealy mouthed condemnation IMO.

Then you're an idiot. The liberal media has made that Phelps, who doesn't have one member in his church that isn't a close relative, one of the best known Christian names in America. More folks know that name than know the Popes name, I would expect.

That's misrpresenting the role of the media and what news was available to print. I would agree that the Phelps family got undue coverage, but so does Britney Spears. MSM survives only on advertising, without advertising they go tits up. Without readership/viewership they lose advertising revenue. I presume that all the MSM have some business savvy; enough to know what draws in readership. In the surveys, Americans don't want sex and violence on the TV. What are the most popular programs? Sex and violence. MSM stuffs the channels with what most people turn the channel to. You might blame what the MSM puts on TV, I blame the public in large numbers for wanting to watch the cr@p.

I submit they would ignore the contrary opinions of the other 99.9999 .... % of American Christians.

What has the conservative media been reporting?

You bet they were happy. And they report every stupid thing that comes out of Robertson's mouth.

Hopefully, it keeps donations to the 700 Club down. Did Fox news report what stupid things Robertson said or do they prefer not to report it?

Finally, if any states wanted to secede I'd oppose it, up to the point of going to war over it. Probaly mostly due to the precedent and family history as my ancestors fought in the Union Army and a gg grandfather died in the conflict.

Precedent? 140 year old precedent! If the State of, e.g., Wyoming, wanted to secede because they determine their values are not compatible with those of the United States, why shouldn't they be allowed to secede? Because your gg grandfather died in the Civil War is a pretty poor rationale. "Precedent" isn't any better.
