Who's in the third group and how do we stop them?

Are we sure that there's a third group? And if there is, how big it is?

I'm firmly in group one, so firmly that I can't conceive of what would put someone in group three. Group two I understand. As for group three, do we even know it's not a figment?

Nice argument. The whole post.

Let me hypothesize, however, that not only are the boundaries between the groups blurry (lots of folk who only fit marginally and might be effected by policies one can't anticipate because you've got them firmly in the group) but there are subcategories within the groups who are likely to be effected by gun control legislation.

For instance, in group 2, the group "who are gonna use a gun no matter what," there may be such subcategories as:

1. Low level criminals who would be deterred from owning and using a gun by very severe increases in punishment if they are caught with a gun during commission of the crime. I know there are laws to this effect now but don't know much about them. Perhaps you do.

2. Guns are a serious issue in domestic violence cases. We both know that. Perhaps there are ways to control their presence more once the presence of violence is known to courts and/or police. Don't know.

3. Guns in the homes of parents with children prone to violence. When such becomes known to courts and/or police, something might be done.

4. Licensing arrangements made more difficult for all but the most obvious of hunting guns.

Nothing more comes to mind as I type but I'll try to look around.
