Peter, You probably read what I typed correctly but I have a bad habit of moving too fast in a response to posts, and do not make my meaning clear.

I was involved in one of those small business packs. There were about 5 or 6 major furniture manufacturers that the smaller companies had to cope with, so we established the "Southwestern Furniture Manufacturing Association", along with many others in the same situation we were in. It was very effective and we shared our knowledge of new products in furniture mfg. and ideas on marketing to compete with the big boys. We also had some fun. We would have an annual seminar, where the officers of these small factories got together to exchange ideas. But, we always made sure the seminar was held in a soothing location, such as Acapulco, Las Vegas, The Bahamas, etc. 8^) We also invited our suppliers to join us which made them appreciate our business with them.

When one delegates properly, the one you are delegating to is told of the importance of his role, and how much his contribution will be appreciated. That gives him the feeling that he should do the best job he was capable of. The employees were like our brothers, and customers were our friends.
