Yup. The case was about to go to SCOTUS based on an argument of the 2nd Amendment being an individual right as opposed to it being a collective right as supported by DOJ in the Clinton years. Ashcroft stopped that argument by changing the DOJ position to that of the individual right. That pulled the rug out from under the appeal.

There are many of us who would like to see the Supremes decide the gun issue, but if they were to do so, it would take away a lot of fund raising from interest groups on both sides.
