You and I both know that government is in the business of concealing as much information as they give out. Reporters know that. They know the best stories are not in the press releases and official briefings. So they are constantly trying to ferret out the full story beneath the spin or the wall of silence.

Most reporters I ever met treat the classified info question thoughtfully. They aren't out to publish just because something is stamped SECRET. But they do want to tell a full story if they can find a way to get the information.

Can you think of any cases where classified information was published that caused direct and immediate harm instead of just embarrassment and political scrutiny or pressure on certain figures?
