Congressman Jerry Lewis (Head of Appropriations) is the next big corruption scandal due to his Abramoff-like ties to a lobbyist named Lowry who used to work for him. Huge earmarks given out in exchange for campaign contributions. Similar also to the Duke Cunningham scandal.

"a law barring anyone that has ever been elected to national office from EVER lobbying or working for a company that does business with the government."

Often this benefits both the government and the employer. It probably would not withstand judicial scrutiny. You would be denying people the right to pursue the careers for which they had the most preparation.

When a former government employee behaves unethically in their new job it can be harmful to our government. The good news is that the people who stayed usually treat them as a pariah.
