Influence peddling is a problem, but so is ignorance. Seems like the problem is entrenched pols who lose any motivation other than pleasing lobbyists, getting pork for their districts and deepening their entrenched position. Somewhere between the newbies and the hacks, the public interest goes bye-bye.
