democrats were asked to put out a plan and they refused.

True. But by then it was in the context of pulling Bush's iron out of the fire so I don't think you can blame them entirely.

no one wants to do their job and address a social program that may hurt their own chances for election.

Bush was brave to take it on. I commended him at the time for it. Too bad he screwed it up so badly. I'm not sure anything would have worked, but he didn't give it half a chance.

Why raise the age on soc sec. it may cost you votes,, why cut back on inflation increases it may cost you votes. why not make soc sec. means tested.. it may cost you votes.

I don’t remember the current admin plan addressing any of those things. The plan presented was about privatization of accounts. A great idea for Wall Street.
I will start collecting in about 5 years. What’s in it for me?

Maybe if this admin was able to tighten its belt with regard to spending then
I’d be willing to do the same. So far I don't think I'll need it but you never know when bad policy will cause a stock market crash.

Means testing would surely cost someone MY vote. SS was sold as INSURANCE. Should someone be able to take away YOUR insurance because you scrimped and saved your whole life to have a comfortable retirement while the other spent and wasted his whole life? I am very opposed to ANY form of means testing. jdn
