"If you posit, for example, that the universe began in the gumball stage then your theory must also explain how a gumball of that age remained stable. " It must also explain where the gumball came from, or it is NOT and explanation of the beginning of anything except an eternal gumball that changed its mind, is that your fact or your belief? It does not explain the container that gets filled by the space of the exploding gumball, which would be included in any satisfactory definition of Universe, another slight flaw in your 'beginning'.
