I agree. It's just that staments of the type you highlighted:

are so vague that they don't illuminate a discussion.

Words such as life and consciousness don't necessarily have a precise meaning. Much of the discuss then involves a process of flipping between alternative venacular meanings in a logical fallacy called Equivocation.

I mentioned the need for defining and speaking of this to both you and Solon long ago and met with derision. Why would you want the context of intelligence to be the higher vertebrates??
