They lie, cheat, cover up, break the rules, ignore laws and do what they can to have their way, all "for our own good".

Which is why I find it not just astonishing, but flabbergasting, that right-wing pundits are bemoaning the Supreme Court reining in the President.

The next time a Democrat gets elected, they'll change their tune.

It's like watching birds flying into windows, over and over again, until they break their necks. They just won't learn!

I don't trust any powerful executive in the White House.

I found Howell Raines' memoirs on the local library shelf yesterday and am reading it. I've just gotten in to the beginning of his period as executive editor of the Times editorial page as Clinton becomes president. He notes they gave Clinton a very hard time. So Clinton called Sulzberger down for lunch and gave him more than a little grief over it.

Raines notes that Sulzberger told him about the visit, some of the stories exchanged but never asked him to cut the Clinton folk any slack. And they didn't.

The Times definitely has its flaws. We are not looking at one of them right now.

all "for our own good".

I do find it interesting how many people resist the powers that be imposing security on us "for our own good" have no problem with them imposing nanny restrictions on us "for our own good."

Just and idle thought FWIW.

(Speaking of nanny restrictions, I have an update on my personal favorite, seatbelts, for the benefit of anyone who has heard me rant on the subject over the years or anyone who is short like me and can't get properly fitting seatbelts. Finally, finally there is some little guy out there who either manufacturers or imports or who knows what seatbelt extenders for the makes of automobiles that refuse to offer them to their customers. I managed to obtain one for my Honda, otherwise I would not have bought it. If you are in need of such, that is if your seat belt comes across your throat or the throat of a loved one, PM me and I will direct you to the angel who is making this possible.)
