Stripped of all the baggage such an event usually brings with it, the actual crime committed in this drama was the intentional release of classified information relating to national security by a government employee (or employees) to an unauthorized recipient. This is a serious offense. I think it hard to argue with a straight face that this action was motivated by anything other than an effort to influence the domestic politics of our nation.

It seems to me that such actions have become much more frequent in recent years. While this seems all well and good to those out of power today, it is not unreasonable to wonder how soon they will rue their statements once in power. Pretty quickly, I would guess.
