I don't think there's any doubt now that the Bush people are trying to turn this into a big deal for political reasons, get the base out

Well, in this climate, you can't blame them for trying to find the lemonade among the lemons.

Surely they didn't plan the whole thing--initiate the leak themselves so that the Times would publish so they could get fodder for the base...

story comes out on a Thursday, we get the staged outrage the following Monday

I think it's Plan C. Plan A and Plan B didn't work, so they're going to Plan C.

They're burning through these plans awful fast.

You want to know something funny? I don't think Bush gives a . . . . bad word here . . . . about the next elections.

On the whole, he's done a credible job, the country hasn't gone to hell in a handbasket yet, although, truth be told, the country sort of runs itself.

He's over the hump. He's looking forward to kicking back and relaxing.

(Do non-blue-collar workers have the concept of "over the hump"?

Wednesday is hump-day. Payday is Friday, weekend is Saturday, when you hit Wednesday at noon, you're over the hump.)
