The problem with Israel is that it still appears illegitimate to many having used its own 'terrorist' schemes to gain control of land it claims as its own...even while others were living there. Over time this may dissipate but it will take a long, long time.

The sympathy and empathy of the world has its limitations and the bulldozing of Palestinian backyards this week just chips away at what is remaining. The outsized Israeli reaction even has people like Bob Simon wondering what in the world they're thinking and he's sympathetic.

The Israeli government has decided to throw in with the world's rightwing nitwits. I don't know why and how this happened but it certainly makes the Israeli government look untrustworthy, violent and corrupt.

Bad PR move IMO.

In reality, Israel wants to be a Jewish State in perpetuity even while its demographics say otherwise. At what point does Israel end up looking like South Africa under apartheid? At what point do people say, this isn't right and it's a losing argument anyway?

This is a more interesting question which almost never gets brought up.
