I maintain that Bush has not authority to condem the press for their actions since his actions in itself are illegal. There is no debate about the legality.

On the contrary, regarding the FISA program, there is a legal debate with solid arguments on both sides. It will probably require a Supreme Court ruling. Regarding the SWIFT program, however, there is no debate. It was legal. It had auditing. Even the NYT admitted as much.

The issue is OVERSIGHT. Simple, very simple. All Americans want is OVERSIGHT.

That's what we elect representatives to do. Congress was briefed in both cases.

By your logic, the US could never keep a military secret because it would spoil the oversight.
