At the time, I drank the white Kool-Aid. What bugs me to this day, is that part of it was correct. Rhodesia was far better for all of its population than Zimbabwe is today, and I have no solution for it. How do you grant a culture rights and respect, when the culture (for whatever reason) under performs?

Yes, that is the problem. My problem is that that hordes of politically correct multi-culturalists deny that this problem exists - by definition it's not allowed to exist, since "under performing" can only be defined relative to cultural norms.

The upshot is, they feel entitled to judge anybody they consider in "our" cultural group, say Bush, or the Israeli government, in a cold minute. But Arabs? Oh no, they are the other-cultured colonially oppressed. Mustn't judge.

The upshot is, one side is judged against some standard of perfection, while the other gets a free pass on barbarism.

I'm glad to see that you haven't drunk this Kool-aid of your new habitat.
