It's a tired, familiar old argument, "If only (fill in blank A) had been tough enough, then (fill in blank B) would no longer be a problem. B is still a problem because A didn't care, didn't have enough backbone, loves the baddies in B, etc."

The world is much more complex than that. The lesson I draw from all of this is that neither Clinton nor Bush could find a formula to stop the nuts in North Korea from doing what they do.

I posted my piece in response to Drum's nonsensical characterization that there is "no plan". Clinton and Bush both had plenty of plans. But short of starting a full-blown war with NK (a country whose army could flood much of South Korea in hours), there is no good solution.

Everything else is just empty breast-beating from sideline QBs on the left and the right.

Jim when you say criticize Bush... Who else is responsible ?

Failed policies equal criticism... I have difficulty all the time when the failure to pin blame where it belongs..

The fact is whomever is in charge gets criticized. Were you around when Clinton was in the White House. Never a day went by that the criticisms weren't flying and the New York Times was right there reporting the facts...
