"they need to get more soldiers into the Afghanistan. It seems the Taliban has regrouped."

What they need to do in Afghanistan is to do what they promised to do. Afghanistan has been a bleeding wound for decades. The original reason why the Taliban came to power is that they promised to end the turmoil, and they did. No doubt the reason why they are resurgent is for the same reasons. The best way to cut the Taliban out is to help it rebuild and decrease the turmoil.

re: Whether its a war that can be won or not [see the USSR in the 1980s], they need to get more soldiers into the Afghanistan. It seems the Taliban has regrouped.

At least it made some sense. I'm not sure it still makes sense.

What always made sense was a no holds barred (x nukes) pursuit of bin Laden. Forget borders, forget geopolitics, just relentlessly go get the guy that got us. Send the clear message, then go home. We would have nothing but respect from the rest of the world.

Maybe that should be the Democrat's rally call... "we will withdraw our troops from Iraq and go and get bin Laden. We will respect no border, we will not fear our personal losses until we get the maniac that attacked our innocent citizens. But once he is captured of dead, we will leave the ME and let you live your lives as you see fit".

I think that "resonates", not only in this country, but in the rest of the world. Including the ME.
