I haven't seen Breaking the Waves. Pheww, another for my Netflix list. I actually liked Eyes-Wide-Shut. I didn't love it like I expected to given it was the last film of old what's his name.(the nouns go first). Momento was fun. Diabolique--the original--now there is a film that keeps you hanging until the end but does give you some meat for dessert.

P.S. Make sure to watch the original and not the remake.

Not at all sure how Cache intersects with Eyes Wide Shut but I found Eyes Wide Shut both disturbing and engaging. On the whole, more engaging than disturbing.

I think the sex stuff in Eyes Wide Shut is sort of a distraction/red herring.

Kubrick could have made the film with everybody fully clothed and behaving as if in a parlor or at an ordinary costume party, and I would have found it equally disturbing and engaging. The most disturbing scenes take place when everybody is clothed.

I actually kinda liked Eyes Wide Shut. Liked it better than some of Kubrick's others. Never saw Holy Smoke.
One I am really looking forward to seeing is "A Scanner Darkly". Looks like a very original treatment of one of Phillip K Dick's stories, a hybrid video-animation, which I think may be quite effective for the story:
