Actually, I was responding to a different phenomenon. I had in mind the name calling, the treason stuff, like some of the Rep leadership in the House and a Senator or two are doing vis a vis the New York Times. And the WH just stands back. In fact, Cheney's speeches encourage such.

I'm afraid the political benefits of doing this become so obvious it gets very hard for the next round of winners to back off.
