Ah, if we could only return to the days when arabs were men with beards who wore baggy pants and funny little slippers and sat around all day eating falafels and smoking a hookah.RE: "It appears you have some doubts about the dangers posed to the West by radical Islam." You have it backward. The issue is the danger posed to Islam by the radical West. Perhaps you are too young to remember when things were different. When I was a kid, Baghdad was considered an exotic place of romance and adventure. Arabs were popular heros in children's stories and if any American thought of them at all, it was not with ill will or prejudice. Gas was twenty five cents a gallon and US oil companies were having a field day with huge reserves in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. Man is the only predator on the face of the planet that will intentionally stalk prey larger than himself. If you leave him alone, he's as peaceful as a cow munching grass in a field. If you push him far enough, he turns feral. At that point he will not stop stalking you until you or he is dead. I suspect it's something that happens at the instinctive level and is survival related. As far as I can tell, it is impossible for an invading army to win except with overwhelming force and total genocide, such as the Indian wars in the American West. Germany and Europe in the 40s, the US and Korea in the 50s, the US and Vietnam in the 60s and 70s, and the US and the Middle East now. You can go as far back in history as you like. No one has ever won this kind of war of aggression except by total force and enough brutality to murder the entire population to the last man, woman and child. The population of the invaded area reacts like white blood cells attacking a virus. So. Get a clue. The trick in foreign policy is not to trigger the immune response. A cow is a lot easier to deal with than a wounded tiger. Message 22622761
