This isn't what I'm interested in. What kind of studies were the Crowley etc. lines drawn on? If the same thing as Mann's, the same criticisms apply to them.

Do the Crowley & Gerber etc studies have the same divergence problem Mann does - that is the data Mann's curve is based on doesn't show the warming of the last century (represented by the red line)?

Also why did the NAS report say only the 400 years was really reliable and that temperature reconstructions before this period (about 1600) have "less confidence" and that "uncertainties...increase substantially backward in time..."?
