You're still confused. Al Qaeda has almost no military power. Their power is of a different sort.

And as far as the limits of power of the "Islamo-Fascist" movements, did Reagan pull our troops out of Beirut? Did Israel pull out of Lebanon? Did Clinton pull our forces out of Mogadishu? Did the Russians pacify Chechnya? Has the US been able to protect the citizens of Iraq from Al Qaeda?

These are fanatics that would have been happy to have one victory and a bunch of defeats. They've done far better than that. Already the American public thinks the Iraq invasion was a mistake.
