It wasn't all luck that the US is where it is.

(A lot better place than Poland, with Germans and Russians on each side)

Many Europeans and European political factions / religeous groups / philosphical elements etc. where looking for a place to go from the 1400s onward. There was even some correspondence and debate as to which part of the new world was best for those who were politically alienated from the monarchists and other authoritarians.

Lots of "Conversos" migrated from Spain and Portugal to the New World. Many went to Santa Fe.

Hundreds of years later, US development was assisted by many Europeans who were from essentially the same factions and groups.

US History recordds lots of foreign technical, military, and financial assistance. Polish and German generals trained the Contiental Army. (I don't remember the spellings of their names.) Also assistance from the Friesan region of Holland.

It is well known du Ponts, who were Hugenots I think, upgraded American gunpowder. In many ways, supporting US independence was France's most successful foreign policy act. ;-)

There was some extensive financial from many quarters, and extensive Jewish assitance. This is well documented historically, but this tends not to be published in the widely used textbooks.

There was a lot of luck involved also, and how much is luck and how much conspiracy we may not know.
