Not too sure if engaging Iran is something they really want because Iran is not Iraq.. At most I can see bombing runs to Iran but as far as Iran's nuclear capabilities go, it is just getting started.. Does not look like they are in the same class as the likes of North Korea so I don't think there is a rush to do anything directly with Iran..

it seems to me this is an attempt to disorganize and break the current Palestine Govt.. which is popular with the local population but that is about it.. It seems however, it will be another long drawn out debacle and as usual a lot of innocent people will be the collateral damage.. PR machine however is working as it always does.. As for Lebanon, well, why limit your self.. Do enough damage so they are busy another 20 years trying to get up again..

if Iran ever gets nukes, Israel is gone.

LOL! The U.S. will allow Iran to nuke Israel? This is a serious thread, not LindyBill's trash talking contest. Please respect it.

If Iran gets nukes, Israel MIGHT have to treat the Palestinians as human beings. Then again, maybe not. It depends on the whims of the Iranian government at the time. Egypt took its military defeat of Israel and used that leverage entirely for itself, not a bit to help the Palestinians.

Cobalt, I think you may be on to something, but I think you might have missed a few intermediate steps.

Israel hits Lebanon until all the Hezbollah guys move into Syria, then Israel targets Hezbollah in Syria and then the Iran/Syria pact kicks in and Iran makes an offensive move.

This could tie Iran into a "verifiable" connection with forces attacking our ally Israel. This would leave us with NO choice but to attack Iranian forces in one context or another and we would be FORCED to go to war with Iran.

The Neo-Cons would get what they've always wanted and Bush would REALLY get to play war for his last two years...which is the only thing he's ever enjoyed anyway.

hard to see what you're supposed to do when somebody says they think you should be erased from the map and then gets nuclear weapons.

It is hard to see that Israel has a military solution.

Unless Israel can militarily conquer and occupy the Muslim world, Israel can not win militarily.

The only way Israel can survive over the long term is to find a political solution. They can do it now when they are at the height of their military advantage.

I think they have to work with the United States and the Security Council of the UN and work out some plan that would guarantee Israel long term survival.

Nuclear technology is only about 60 years old. But it is not only nuclear technology that Israel has to worry about. It is not only nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons that we all have to worry about. Conventional weapons are going to get more sophisticated, more lethal, and more widespread.

There is no military solution for Israel or anyone else.
