The thing that changed on 911 (remember it?) was the idea that we didn't need to care how messed up the Middle East was because those troubles were over there.

After 9/11, Bush was now compelled to give up his casual, always-on-vacation type of approach and get down to really serious business of tightening up the country's security. No more reading story books to kids in school. He was made to realize that the Presidency is a much more serious business.

The ME was a mess. Today, it is in a greater mess, thanks to Bush. The terrorists are getting elected the Bush way, through democratic elections.
