That columnist often has a good column with an interesting perspective on the oil sands, mind it has an Alberta viewpoint and might not be of much interest to those south of the border.

re drought:
Much of Western Canada is going through its yearly fire season.

Drought and what we consider heat, 30*C, are not unusual here.
