The army may have. What are the people gonna do? Think they like it that their hotels and sections of beach in their own country they can't go into unless they work there? That there are things they can't get without foreirn currency?

Castro has been running a typical Communist state. Sure was popular among the Latvians, Lithuanians, Estnians, Rumanians, Poles, Esat Germans, Hungarians, ... wasn't it?

Cuba is smaller and closer and has a smaller army.

OTOH it does have more jungle and less flat open terrain like the deserts in Iraq. That might be a bigger factor than their preparations.

Edit - OTOH I don't think the aftermath would be quite as bad. Yes guerilla fightters might hide out in the hills and jungles and take some time to totally defeat but I don't think you would get the level of terrorist attacks and sectarian strife/violence.
