Hawk...I think the Chinese LOVE it that we spend so much time and money on N. Korea.

And what money are we talking about? The US has not really ramped up its deployments to the area to any larger degree than in the past. We haven't deployed hundreds of thousands of soldiers to S. Korea.

But I would agree that they might find it advantageous to make us spend our time on N. Korea.

But then again, by pushing on the 6 party talks as being the only process by which we'll negotiate with NK, we're tying up China in the process as well.

They use N. Korea as leverage for their undervalued yuan and trade surpluses and make noises every so often about how upset they are about them to keep the U.S. in check and malleable.

But then China runs the risk that the US will call their bluff and create the very scenario that China fears.. that mass of refugees flooding into China.
