Are they participating on the Hizbollah side or facilitating what Hizbolla is doing?

It's possible. I can't believe that Israeli targeteers would deliberately strike a Lebanon compound without high-level approval for the strike.

But it could also be an error.. I'll wait and see what the explanation is, since this obviously going to be a contentious issue.

Btw, legally Lebanon and Israel have never signed a peace-treaty. They do have an "armistice" but the fact that Lebanon has permitted a terrorist group to conduct operations against Israel is obviously a violation of that armistice.

Israel could be sending that signal to the Lebanese government that they are about to expand the war if the Lebanese government doesn't take the necessary steps to rein in Hizbullah and disarm them.

Or at least stop their public rantings against the Israeli action.

But I would agree.. I don't find it politically smart to be targeting Lebanonese army troops.

Why weaken them now?

The attacks on roads, runways, and ports is designed to prevent Hizbollah's resupply in the event of ground operations. That kind of attack inevitably is seen as an attack on a nation, but may be more of a military consideration than a political one. That's what I thought last weekend, but I am no longer sure.

Hi michael97123; Re: "I dont get how this helps Israel. In order to secure the border eventually Lebonese army will have to be a partner. Why weaken them now?"

Losing a few dozen men does not "weaken" an army. Israel's objective appears to be to bomb the Lebanese into becoming an ally. This, of course, is doomed to failure. Human response to being bombed is always anger at those who drop the bombs.

Israel is basically painting itself into a corner. Eventually they are going to have to fish or cut bait. My guess is that they cut bait.
