You missed my entire point. Since property taxes go to schools, collect the property taxes and redistribute them evenly to schools.

If people wish to spend their own money going to a Catholic school or to home school then they can. Why should my property taxes go to a Catholic school which only admits Catholics and preaches religion? Ditto home schooling or any kind of religious education on the taxpayer's dime.

It isn't only the property taxes of people WITH CHILDREN that go to schooling, it's everyone's. A common education is so basic and government, when it's working well, can deliver basic services more efficiently than many private enterprises.

This is why government should make health care (not insurance, actual care) single payer since Medicare/Medicaid is much more efficient than private insurance companies. Ditto the corruption and waste of HAL/KBR, Bechtel, Parsons, etc. etc. in Iraq and Katrina.

Why does the rightwing keep whining about getting other people to fund their children's education? Isn't the rightwing about LESS GOVERNMENT and not more? How curious.

I think many schools in the US are out of control. Some have security problems and others have forgotten to provide children with a real education. There is too much emphasis on sports and pushing ritalin and too little emphasis on math and science.

As an aside, I know parents who are very upset that their children are home for the ENTIRE summer and can't wait to palm them off on the school again. These aren't poor children, they're the offspring of upper middle class suburbanite nitwits. They actually have fund raisers for their private schools and ask everyone they know to fund their children's education for them.

It's a curious thing.

I think we have way too many people and so are falling apart at the seams.
