...collect the property taxes and redistribute them evenly to schools.

That's exactly what I support. I would not limit it to public schools however which would give poor parents choices about where their children could go to school.

Why should my property taxes go to a Catholic school which only admits Catholics and preaches religion?

I think Catholic schools accept non-Catholic children. The religious instruction in church schools is minor compared to normal subjects. We sent our kids to a couple of Christian schools for some time - there was a chapel every day, otherwise it was like an ordinary school, with a smaller orderly student body.

..government, when it's working well, can deliver basic services more efficiently than many private enterprises.

Government is generally considered less efficient than private enterprise, for good reason. Why don't you provide examples of efficient government programs to illustrate your claim.

..Medicare/Medicaid is much more efficient than private insurance

Is it really and who says so?

As an aside, I know parents who are very upset that their children are home for the ENTIRE summer and can't wait to palm them off on the school again. These aren't poor children, they're the offspring of upper middle class suburbanite nitwits.

I suspect you're not a parent yourself and may be misjudging minor grousing.

They actually have fund raisers for their private schools and ask everyone they know to fund their children's education for them.

I'll bet they try to get you to buy some candy or something, too. Why should this bother you? Are you outraged that girl scouts try to raise money selling cookies?
