Tom Friedman today is talking about peeling off syria from the axis of shiaa evil. Doing a deal with them much like the one we did with libya? Israelis i am sure would have to agree to return of golan. Syria has never violated a treaty and the threat golan used to pose to israeli farmers is mostly mitigated by the missiles all parties now have that can go greater distances with more accuracy. Israel needs to settle with syria much like they did with egypt. Land for peace could work here. And i dont see syria worse than libya, so the US can play too. Think TF has something here?

Perhaps Afghanistan should also be split up then. The history of forging united nations out of such raw material does not seem good IMO, at least sans brutal methods. At anyrate, a pro-western democracy flowering anytime soon, that survives, is not likely.
