Growing up here we got used to it and as kids always found ways to play and stay cool. As a small child I remember my Mom filling up a large washtub with water and letting me play in it on the shady side of the house. Also spent the summers at my Grandfather's bay home after I started school so summers were fun being on the water and exploring the small beach for sea shells.

Remember one time while walking, I found a cave dug into the cliff probably by teenagers as when I climbed in they had dug a large area and I found beer bottles and cigarettes butts and could not wait to get back to the house to tell about my discovery. I was warned not to go back there, but it did give me insight as to what those teenagers were doing while in there. Family had the thought, "Monkey see, Monkey might do". Never went back and never found out who dug that cave. My sister had quit going down there and the thought did cross my mind that she also knew about the cave, but not for long. Did think she missed all the fun of of finding it as she was a teenager at that time. I enjoyed fishing, crabbing and eating the catch of the day. Nothing can compare to fresh seafood caught by yourself. I learned to clean fish and crabs at an early age and also taught my children to do the same.

I also remember fishing on the pier and pulling up a small gar. I threw pole and all in the water. I thought it looked like an alligator and told the family I was not going to swim there any more. The sight of it scared me so I ran up to the house screaming about it and how ugly it looked. They just laughed and told me not to worry about gars as they did not attack humans. Took we a long while to believe that. LOL They do grow to be quite large I later found out and glad I only hooked a small one. Might have ended my fishing for a long time. I spent a lot of time on that pier.
