Outside of the large number of casualties caused by the American military, it is sectarian conflict that was precisely predicted by many people before the war was started. Neo-cons predicted some sort of paradise where everyone would be full of appreciation for the Americans. Others realized that the country would devolve into chaos, and that religious extremists and terrorists would thrive after the collapse of Saddam's secular regime. Which is probably would will happen if people go out and destroy Syria on the whim of some of these neo-con geniuses.
